Mary Peltola, Alaska Native, secures full term in US Congress

Mary Peltola defeated Sarah Palin to become the first Alaska Native

It is elected to the House of Representatives for a full two-year term

Rank preference election results declared on Wednesday

Peltola is nearly 10 points ahead of Palin.

Peltola took only 55% of the vote.

Peltola will be sworn in on January 3

She is also the first woman to represent Alaska in Congress.

CNN predicted that Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski would win re-election.
